Augmented Reality

Most of the time my filters are connected in some way with my art or music. I use materials, objects and words to refract and highlight specific contrasts and contradictions in Japanese culture, habits, etc. I enjoy finding aesthetic forms and ideas in that space that makes up the between/border/difference

FANTASY WORLDS

Stylized World object effect - discover fantasy worlds and art objects in the journey between worlds with Oculus Quest

Hackathon Challenges

Spark AR Track 2

On this project I had opportunity to work with Dmitry Susidko

ABOUT PROJECT

We have combined our resources to deliver you the world object effect. It is inspired by our fantasy and it shows how people in the future will create and discover worlds created by imagination. We wanted to create a journey with narrative and atmosphere. The main challenge was to create all 4 worlds within 4 mb. During project, we learned how to work with same references & create together #tnxF8

FANTASY WORLDS

Bubble Sculpture ~Personal Space~

This is my first Snapchat AR filter where I used a bubble to take advantage of the new body tracking system and better visualize human personal space in AR. Specifically I wanted to support dancers with this fun AR filter since I imagine many cannot practice in the studio due to the pandemic.

A.T.F “All The Feels”

This is my interpretation of the current phenomena of using social media and messaging apps to compress, blend and share emotions in shorter amounts of time and space. I wanted the AR filter to capture these emotions all at the same time - anger, joy, sadness, pleasure

KOMAINU DISTANCE

Komainu are the traditional “lion dog” statues that guard entrances to many Japanese Shinto shrines. Often appearing in pairs, their presence symbolizes “Aum” or the beginning and end of all things.

Inspired by these spiritual principles, I wanted to introduce the Komainu into the AR world to reflect the synergy we have with each other, even over distance. More than ever, distance has become a relative term whether it be physical, social, etc. Technology makes less face to face communication necessary, arguably pushing us further apart, but also at the same time connects more people across the world in new and interesting ways.

AR-T   "AR Transparency"

“AR Transparency” is an experiment with AR tracking on materials like event flyers and poster to create audience engagement even before the performance starts. Here, the projected objects resemble the glass “water drops” used during the live performance.

KABUKI

Kabuki is a traditional live Japanese dance-drama that’s known for the high level of stylization and the elaborate Kumadori (make-up) worn by some of its performers. Kumadori is typically painted on the actors’ faces, their extreme contours giving their characters satirical facial expressions and instantly adding to the overall sense of drama.

As a form of digital dramatic makeup, this AR filter reflects the same radical designs used for Kumadori in its long lines that contour the face. The incorporation of moving colors and reflectivity update the design to the current age, while keeping to the bizarre, avant-garde values of kabuki.

ObJ

The focus of this study was objects. The word “OBJ” is short for object. It is also a common type of file format for 3-D geometry. By placing common but oversized objects in an AR face filter, I wanted to see what kind of people would place the object so close to their face/identity and, more importantly, their personal motivations for using the filter. Using the ‘crab’ object as an example, the most obvious users of the filter would be people that really liked crabs. But also there may be others that identify with crabs because their astrological sign is Cancer, or may want to use the filter because they are in the process of eating crabs.

Noize - Spectrum

The concept for this augmented reality (AR) filter arose from my desire to create a lasting digital memory of my live performance with audience members. I wanted to project my music philosophy: “Noize-Spectrum” where any sound can be noise and the spectrum of noise mimics nature. To visually represent these ideas, I created a circular framework of waves and levels to wrap around the face that actively shimmers with a spectrum of colors.
