CHAKKY KATO
Floating Boundary
Site specific
California (US)
2018
The setting is the Salton Sea where a salt water lake is slowly evaporating and withdrawing under the hot California Sun. In contrast to typical lake, the Salton Sea is rapidly receding, leaving behind giant, salt rings of its former boundaries. There are remnants of abandoned buildings and man-made features which are naturally being reclaimed by nature. Here, the natural intersect of the land and the sky is the lake forming the horizon. My intervention using semi-transparent plastic sheet is powered by the strong California desert winds and creates a new free flowing visual dimension which merges the distinct environmental features together into a harmonious light blur.
